Are you familiar with National Small Business Week? If not, let me tell you about it. It’s your next great opportunity to connect with your customers and make some waves in the community.
National Small Business Week is a yearly celebration sponsored by the Small Business Association during the first week of May. This year it runs from May 5th – 11th. You can use this week in lots of fun ways to grow your business. Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
1. Offer Local Discounts/Free Products
Discounts and free products always attract people, but during this week, why not make them fun and educational? You can giveaway or discount a different product/service each day of the week and post a quick write-up or video on your blog and social media accounts about why it’s great. You can even create a theme for the week and feature products/services that are all complimentary.
2. Spotlight Loyal Customers/Clients
National Small Business Week is a great chance to highlight your most loyal customers. Take some pictures the week prior and feature a new customer each day. Thank them for their business and let them know how much they matter!
3. Share Personal and Feel-Good Stories about Your Business
Consider sharing a feel-good story each day of the week about your business. You could choose a different story each day or you could use the week to tell a longer story, each day posting a bit more. Some ideas to write about are why you started your business, the challenges and joys of running it and any motivational/fun stories about your business.
4. Collaborate with Other Local Businesses
This week is a great time to collaborate with local businesses in your area with complimentary services. Talk about each other on social media, share each other’s posts and offer a joint discount for patronizing both businesses during the week.
5. Feature Your Employees
Don’t forget your employees this week! Feature a different employee or department each day and also invite customers to post on your social media pages about their favorite employees. Encourage them to share stories about how employees have helped them. During the week, you can also feature short live streams with employees helping customers and mini-testimonials from customers about employees.
7. Try a New Idea – Host a Twitter Chat!
A Twitter Chat is an oldie but goodie. It’s basically an online conversation that you host via Twitter. If you have a active Twitter account or are looking to grow your account, a Twitter chat is one of the best ways to do it. During National Small Business Week you could host a FAQs chat about your business in particular or your industry. It’s a great way to get conversations started and to find out what your ideal customers’ issues and concerns are. We’ll be hosting our own special Facebook Live Chat on May 7th at 11:30am for National Small Business Week! You’ll get to ask us all of your questions about using social media to connect better with your local customers. Find out more and RSVP here:
